About Juan
Raised in Guatemala City until the age of ten, Juan developed his lifelong love of images from the colourful country he grew up in, and the fusion of Mayan and Spanish Catholic iconography fueled his visual lexicon. Capturing the world around him was a natural evolution that inspired his career in cinematography.
Juan pursued his passion for storytelling, drama, and film by completing his Dramatic Arts Honours Degree at Northeastern University, Boston. Determined to transition into filmmaking, Juan moved to Toronto and joined IATSE Camera Local 667.
Early in his career, Juan had the opportunity to learn from DPs such as Jeff Cronenweth, John Leonetti, and Xavier Grobet. Juan’s experience and deep understanding of theatre and drama has helped him hone his style of cinematography, which focuses on visual narratives that evoke emotion. This has led to his work on a range of projects from feature films to American and Canadian television. His career has taken him internationally to Venice, London, Prague, New York, Moscow, and Los Angeles.
